The name Pan de Libros originated from the quote by Edwin Markham who said “He fed his spirit with the bread of books (pan de libros).” We believe the “bread of books” speaks deeply to the project Pan de Libros is undertaking.
Providing someone with bread, our “daily bread”, is a sacred offering. To share in common what sustains us all emphasizes our common humanity, our common needs and desires, hopes and anxieties. It is in the communal act of feasting on bread that we are made whole. And thus we share, through this library, a feast on stories and knowledge, learning and hope. It is in this hope that our common humanity is found and what binds us together regardless of borders.
